Balloons and two giant cakes helped create a festive atmosphere for the 90th Anniversary event at Boys Town Nevada. “I couldn’t even carry one of the cakes,” laughed Erika Christensen, Development Specialist.
With kids and families enjoying the treats, another surprise greeted the community of Boys Town Nevada: the announcement of a refreshed Boys Town brand.
“Boys Town’s new name and image honor our 90 year history while approaching the future with optimism and enthusiasm,” said Tom Waite, Executive Director of Boys Town Nevada, to board members, donors, community leaders, kids and staff.
To demonstrate the strength of Boys Town youth throughout the past 90 years, Waite told the story of the first Christmas dinner at Father Flanagan’s Home. Because the home was in such need, a donated barrel of sauerkraut served as the meal. The boys, who rarely experienced a holiday meal, were so thankful for the unexpected gift.
Waite said this story is just another example of the resilience of Boys Town youth and how they will make it through thanks to the hope provided by Boys Town Nevada.
“It is with excitement that we look towards the future as our programs evolve to meet the changing needs of the community,” said Waite. “With pride, we look forward to 90 more years of saving children and healing families.”
